Profile

I am a Chartered Statistician (CStat) and Senior Lecturer in Immunology with a strong interdisciplinary focus on biostatistics, epidemiology, and public health, currently based at the Institute of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (IBMBB), University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. I am a medically qualified professional (MBBS) with advanced postgraduate training in epidemiology, biostatistics, and public health, including an MPH with merit, an MPhil, a PhD in Public Health, and a Higher Diploma in Applied Statistics with distinction. I am a Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society (FRSS) and the Royal Society for Public Health (FRSPH). My professional work spans academic teaching, clinical research, and applied statistical consultancy, with a particular emphasis on medical, immunological, and population-based health research.

Background

My professional background integrates clinical medicine, academic research, and applied statistics. After qualifying in medicine and completing internship and clinical appointments in Sri Lanka, I developed a strong research orientation through postgraduate training in epidemiology and biostatistics, followed by doctoral research focused on cardiovascular risk prediction in Sri Lankan populations. I have contributed to over three decades of peer-reviewed research outputs in international journals, particularly in immunology, haematology, infectious diseases, and public health. Alongside academia, I have served as an expert data analyst and committee member in Joint Commission International (JCI) hospital accreditation programmes, contributed to WHO- and UN-linked public health initiatives, and supervised MSc and PhD-level research. This combined clinical, statistical, and academic background enables me to deliver rigorous, ethically grounded, and context-appropriate statistical consultancy for health and biomedical research.

Specialisms

My areas of specialism include biostatistics, epidemiology, immuno-epidemiology, and clinical research methodology, with extensive experience in the analysis of infectious diseases, non-communicable diseases, and immunological data. I provide statistical expertise in study design, sample size determination, regression modelling, survival analysis, multivariate techniques, and interpretation of complex biomedical datasets. I have particular expertise in the statistical analysis of dengue, COVID-19, cardiovascular disease, cancer-related immunology, and public health surveillance data, and I regularly support postgraduate research, clinical audits, and translational health studies.
