The RSS 2017 Conference has been shortlisted for an ABPCO (Association of British Professional Conference Organisers) Excellence Award for ‘Best Conference by an In-House Organiser’.
The RSS is one of just three shortlisted organisations in this category – along with Diabetes UK and RenewableUK.
The shortlisted candidates, which were selected by an independent panel, will present their submission at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) on Thursday 13 December. The winners of the award will be announced after a final vote on the day.
Kate Sargent, joint-chair of ABPCO commented: ‘The shortlist is particularly exciting this year. There was a lot of new blood entering the awards and the panel’s choice reflects that.’
The RSS 2017 Conference in Glasgow broke all attendance records of those before it (before the record was broken again by the 2018 conference). It also had the highest number (to date) of exhibitors and a record number of countries represented in its delegates. A high number of‘career-young’ statisticians attended, many of whom presented their work at the conference’s poster competition and spoke in the conference’s first ever ‘rapid-fire' talks stream (which was continued at the 2018 conference).
The 2017 conference was also remembered warmly by many delegates for the energetic ceilidh (pictured) that took place after the conference dinner on the final day.
