Profile

I am an experienced scientist, researcher, research methodologist and statistician with many years experience of working in the fields of medicine, health and social care. I work part-time as Professor of Neurophysiology at the University of Northampton where I maintain an active research profile, teach postgraduate students (mainly research methods and statistics), supervise doctoral students and advise staff on data analysis and statistics. I am also an adviser to the NIHR Research Design Service East Midlands. I also run a consultancy business, which undertakes commissioned research, evaluation and data analysis for both public and private sector clients primarily, although not exclusively, in medical, health and social care settings. I am an Office for National Statistics (ONS) Accredited Researcher which enables me to work on projects which need access to datasets from the ONS Secure Research Service.

Background

I am an academic hybrid, initially qualifying as a physicist before working as a researcher into the processes of pain and pain relief at the Walton Hospital in Liverpool, which also confirmed my belief in multi-disciplinary working. I am a chartered physicist and chartered statistician and am a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology and Honorary Fellow of the College of Occupational Therapy. I have worked in the healthcare sector of higher education since 1987 and am currently the Professor of Neurophysiology at the University of Northampton (part-time) am an advisor to the NIHR East Midlands Research Design Service. I am also a freelance health research consultant and chartered statistician.
