Professor McMullin has wide experience of RCTs in her field and can explain, inter alia, the effort that goes into designing and running andomised controlled trials in practice, contrasting this with experience of observational studies.
The Autumn seminars begin with a talk on RCTs continuing the theme of contrasting randomised controlled trials with observational studies.
This will be a hybrid event with the speaker in-person in Room 006A on the 3rd floor in the Peter Froggatt Centre (main Quad. QUB) and an on-line audience on MS Teams (link below).
National trials in Acute myeloid leukaemia: A standard of care
by
Professor Mary Frances McMullin (Haematology), Queen's University Belfast
Abstract
Acute myeloid leukaemia is a rare and serious disorder. Prognosis for many patients is poor and there is an ongoing need for new and better treatments. In the UK the majority of centres have collaborated to enrol patients in national trials which test therapy options tailored to risk group and tolerability. This has resulted in some centres such as in NI where the majority of patients enter the appropriate trial which is then recognised as the standard-of-care. New treatments are then available for patients sooner and ineffective treatments are more rapidly eliminated from the care pathway. I will illustrate, with examples of trials, some of the successes and failures from this pathway.
All welcome!
