Welcome and introduction to the Young Statisticians Section:
This session will first give all attendees the chance to introduce themselves, followed by a short introduction to the Royal Statistical Society (RSS), Young Statisticians Section (YSS) and YSS events that are running throughout the conference.
How to get involved with the Royal Statistical Society:
In this session we’ll find out how statisticians of all ages have been volunteering for the RSS and associated initiatives. Exact content TBC but will likely cover RSS Pathways, getting involved with RSS sections and local groups, volunteering with AIMs and/or Statisticians for Society.
Presentation skills workshop:
The session will cover presentation skills including tips for improving slides, effective storytelling structures, and engaging with the audience. This will include an improvisation skills active learning session to help build attendees confidence and help them feel more prepared to deal with difficult or unexpected questions. This session aims to encourage more young statisticians to present at conferences.
Poster session:
Early-career statisticians who have been offered a poster in the main conferencewill have an opportunity to present their poster in the pre-conference day. This session would include digital presentations with time for 5 min rapid-fire talks from each presenter.
