This online course is the foundation to all presentations of statistical information. The basic principles of presenting information in tables, charts and text are explained. These are illustrated and then reinforced through practical exercises.

Ed Swires-Hennessy

This online course was created by Ed Swires-Hennessy. Ed was a government statistician until his retirement in 2010. From a very early stage in his career he took an interest in the presentation and publishing of information and was a visiting lecturer at the Civil Service College on the subject. For over 20 years he was the general editor of statistical publications at the then Welsh Office. He developed and ran a week-long course for European Statisticians on behalf of the Statistical Office of the European Communities titled ‘Basic Principles of publication and dissemination of official statistics’ (1996-2003). In 2003 he was awarded the inaugural JH West medal by the Royal Statistical Society for ‘outstanding contribution and influence on the dissemination of official statistics.
