The Office for National Statistics (ONS) are planning to run a roundtable on their plans to improve the coherence and comparability of UK official statistics. They would like a group of RSS members to attend to help develop their thinking.
Recent reports, including the report of first UK Statistics Assembly and the OSR report into The Adequacy of UK-wide Comparable Statistics and Data, have highlighted the need to improve the coherence and comparability of UK official statistics.
In response to these findings, the National Statistician’s Office (NSO), in ONS, is developing a Government Statistical Service (GSS) Coherence Strategy structured around three pillars: user needs guiding priorities; increasing coherence and comparability; and governance enabling the vision.
This roundtable provides an opportunity to understand and explore user needs to guide GSS coherence priorities. The focus of the discussion will be around the following questions:
-
There are clear established statistical coherence needs at the national level between England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The UK Statistics Assembly suggested that there are statistical coherence needs at other geographies. What are the geographic levels that users are interested in understanding statistical coherence?
The roundtable will take place online on 16 July, 14h00-16h00.
If you would like to attend please complete this form to register your interest. We hope that everyone who is interested will be able to attend – but if demand is too great, we will select attendees to try and get a diverse range of geographic and subject expertise.
Please complete the form by 12pm (noon) on 9 July.
