Future Leader profile: Nee Norteye Barnor
Position: Data scientist at Revionics
I have been working in analytics/data science for the past twelve years. I am very passionate about encouraging young people from minority (my background) into data science and so actively volunteer with different STEM organisations mentoring young students.
Education: Background in economics and finance, but recently completed an MSc in data science
I am currently doing a part time research degree in computational finance to marry my education and current career, as well as to open opportunities in consulting later.
Leadership philosophy: To achieve a mix between maximising one's full potential, being in a position to drive/implement/establish your vision in a particular field as well as being an inspiration and example for (young) people
I want to explore and develop my ability to lead and more importantly be an example for people from a minority background.
Motivations as a Future Leader: To be a role model for aspiring minority data scientists
I have struggled to find people like me in close proximity to follow or model myself on so I have primarily relied on successful colleagues to inspire me in the career space. In general, it has been people who, despite them being in the minority, have stood out and been successful.
Advice to those looking for a career in the field: Make sure you stand out
It is a fantastic time to be in this field with a lot of opportunities, but this also means it is very competitive, so make sure you stand out. Do not limit yourself and find a mentor!
Hobbies: Reading books
