Guy Medals in Gold

The Guy Medal in Gold is a lifetime achievement award. It recognises an individual who has demonstrated a long-term, innovative contribution and lasting influence on the field of statistics. 

The Guy Medal in Gold is awarded every two years. It will be awarded in 2028.

  This award is assessed based on lasting influence over an extended career of typically three or more decades and values quality of contribution over quantity. 
  
  Eligibility criteria for nominations for the Guy Medal in Gold:

  • Fellow of the Society for at least two consecutive years on 1 January in the year the medal is to be awarded
  • Evidence of high-quality, innovative contribution and importance for the field of statistics
  • Typically, at least 30 years of post-doctoral contribution, acknowledging that career trajectories vary.

  Nominations should demonstrate:

  • Long-term, innovative contribution and lasting influence on the field of statistics. This would often be exemplified by high-quality published work but may also include, for example, evidence of research leadership or mentoring of the next generation of leading academics
  • Quality of contribution.

  Nominations must provide sufficient detail for the committee to understand the lifetime achievement.

  2026 recipient: Peter McCullagh
