Research

The Research Section was formed more than 50 years ago. It caters to anyone with an interest in the theory of statistics, the development of statistical methods, new applications of established methods and related aspects of probability. The committee of the Research Section of the Royal Statistical Society handles papers submitted to the Journal of the Royal Statistical Society as discussion papers.

Read more about Discussion paper meetings which also has guidelines on submitting a paper. You must comply with these guidelines before making your submission.

You can watch previous discussion meetings on our YouTube channel.

To be accepted as a discussion paper, a manuscript should not only meet the standard of the Journal but importantly, also have the potential to generate an interesting discussion. Before submitting a paper for discussion, it is essential that you read the guidelines and comply with the requirements of the Journal.

Papers can be submitted online via ScholarOne Manuscripts.

Discussion papers suitable for Series B follow a system of regular submission deadlines:

  • 1 January
  • 1 April
  • 1 July
  • 1 October
