Professional recognition at the start of your statistical career

Graduate Statistician (GradStat) is the Royal Statistical Society’s professional status for early‑career statisticians who want their qualifications and training to be formally recognised. 

It shows employers, clients and colleagues that you have a sound grounding in statistics, understand professional responsibilities, and are committed to developing your career to recognised standards. 

GradStat is the first professional milestone on the pathway towards Chartered Statistician (CStat). 

Why apply for GradStat? 

A degree alone does not always convey the quality or relevance of your statistical training.

Who GradStat is for 

GradStat is suitable if you: 

  • Hold a statistics‑based degree, or 
  • Have completed a degree with substantial statistical content, or 
  • Have developed your statistical expertise through a combination of education, training and professional experience 

Applicants come from a wide range of sectors including government, health, finance, technology, research and industry. 

What GradStat recognises 

GradStat confirms that you have: 

  • A solid understanding of frequentist and Bayesian methods 
  • Knowledge of probability theory and statistical reasoning 
  • Skills in data collection, management and curation 
  • The ability to build, assess and interpret statistical models

The RSS offers concessionary rates on membership for recent graduates, with an annual membership fee of £83 per year in 2026 rising to £91 on award of GradStat certification.
