RSS Quality Mark (Modules and Short Courses)


RSS Quality Mark 

The RSS Quality Mark recognises high-quality individual degree course modules and training courses in statistics and data science. 

It provides a flexible way to accredit statistical components in wider degrees and learning outside full degree programmes. 

Who is it for? 
  • Universities accrediting selected modules 
  • CPD and professional training providers 
  • Online and blended learning providers 
  • Interdisciplinary programmes 
What can be accredited? 

Any module or course involving statistical or data skills, including: 

  • Data analysis and applied statistics 
  • Probability and statistical theory 
  • Data science and machine learning 
  • Research design, surveys and sampling 
  • Data ethics, security and reproducibility  
Assessment criteria 

Modules are assessed against five key areas: 

1. Learning outcomes 

Clear, appropriate, and aligned with statistical competencies 

2. Content and delivery 

  • Strong link between theory and application 
  • Use of appropriate datasets and software 
  • Integration of ethics and data integrity 

3. Assessment and achievement 

  • Enables demonstration of learning outcomes 
  • Evidence of student success 

4. Review and quality assurance 

  • Involvement of statisticians (e.g. GradStat/CStat) 
  • Alignment with formal QA processes 

5. Resources 

  • Adequate staffing, computing and learning resources
