Routes to achieving GradStat 

In order to qualify for GradStat status, you must first be a Fellow of the RSS. Once you are a Fellow, you may apply via one of two routes:  

Standard route 

For applicants who have: 

  • Graduated from an RSS‑accredited degree (meeting any conditions), or 
  • Completed a non‑accredited degree and can demonstrate that it meets RSS GradStat learning outcomes 

Check if your degree is accredited.  

Competency‑based route 

For applicants who: 
  • Hold a non‑accredited degree, and 
  • Have undertaken sufficient statistical training, and 
  • Have at least two years’ experience in a statistical role, and 
  • Can evidence recent CPD (typically 60 hours over the past year) 

This route recognises that professional competence may be developed through varied and non‑traditional pathways.

Reciprocity of certification 

The RSS recognises the FenStats Junior Accreditation as equivalent to Graduate Statistician.

GradStat is not only about technical ability. 

All GradStat members commit to the RSS Code of Conduct demonstrating professionalism, integrity and responsibility in their work. This ethical foundation underpins public trust in statistics and statisticians.

A stepping stone to Chartered Statistician 

GradStat is designed as a progressive professional status. 

As you gain experience and continue your professional development, GradStat provides the foundation for applying for Chartered Statistician (CStat), the RSS’s highest professional award.

Apply for Graduate Statistician status through your online MyRSS account. There is no application fee. 

If you are not a fellow yet apply to join online.   

The RSS offers concessionary rates on membership for recent graduates with an annual membership fee of £83 per year in 2026 rising to £91 on award of GradStat certification.
