Quality Improvement

The Quality Improvement Section (QIS) provides a forum for best practice in the application of statistical methods seeking to improve organisational performance and outcomes, whilst encouraging statisticians to be involved as key advisers at a practical level in organisational improvement.

The Quality Improvement Section was originally a sub-committee of the Business and Industrial Section until 1998 when it became a committee reporting directly to the Society’s Council. At the beginning of 2004, the Committee became a Section. In 2006, Six Sigma was recognised as a strong force and a Six Sigma Study Group (later re-named Six Sigma, Lean and Process Improvement Study Group), was formed specifically to address this and related issues. This study group was re-absorbed into the section at the end of its term in 2011. QIS continues its interest in Six Sigma & Lean with the ISO oversight committee for ISO18404.

Following the winding up of the Professional Development Committee and the growth of training courses within the RSS, QIS is now keeping a watchful eye on the training marketplace to identify emerging trends.
