Royal Statistical Society obituaries
Obituaries to celebrate the lives of statisticians have been published in RSS journals since 1839. Over 500 such articles have been published - these currently appear in Series A but were also previously included in Series D. They provide fascinating insights into the lives of influential statisticians across many and varied fields.
The Society’s obituaries are overseen by our Obituaries Commissioning Panel on Council’s behalf. A large part of the Panel’s work is to follow the practice of the best newspapers by commissioning “pre-obituaries” for eligible people well before their death. This ensures that the piece can be published promptly when it is eventually needed.
Obituaries are free to access via the OUP website -
