After a failed bid to secure renovation funds for the Society’s headquarters, RSS Council has voted to approve the sale of 12 Errol Street. This follows the recommendation of the building task force that reported to Council in 2022.
Errol Street has been home to the RSS since 1995, when the Society bought the building from the Educational Arts Trust and subsequently carried out extensive renovations. Since then, it has played host to important events, discussion meetings and many training courses, as well as to the hard work of dedicated RSS staff and volunteers.
Unfortunately, having been built in 1890 and without the funds for significant modernization and maintenance, the building is no longer fit for purpose. A search has now begun for a new London base for RSS operations with lower maintenance costs and a more efficient layout to accommodate RSS staff working, meetings and the Society’s busy events calendar. With fond memories of Errol Street, the Society looks forward to making the most of this opportunity to design a new space around the needs of a modern, sustainable and efficient organisation.
