As part of our 2022 Statistical Excellence in Journalism Awards, the RSS has launched a new category for ‘Best statistical commentary by a non-journalist’, for which the deadline for entries has now been extended to Monday 4 April.
The awards, sponsored by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) are now in their 16th year. This new category looks to celebrate the communication work done by statisticians and data scientists in the media during the pandemic.
The judging panel is looking for outstanding examples of commentary by a statistician or data scientist that gives clarity on a statistical issue related to the news – such as debunking a myth or calling out misinformation.
Articles must have been published in the previous calendar year (2021) and have featured in traditional media, or non-traditional media. Entries can be self-nominated but we also encourage members to nominate others.
