We have published our
2025 Trustees' Annual Report, highlighting a year of growth, impact and innovation across the Society's work. The report sets out how the RSS has advanced its mission to promote the public good through statistics, while continuing to support members, strengthen the profession and champion the effective use of data in society.
It also outlines the Society's governance, finances and future plans, demonstrating how the RSS is building strong foundations for the years ahead. With membership continuing to grow, record engagement at events and new initiatives across policy, education and public understanding, the report reflects a vibrant and thriving organisation at the heart of the statistical community.
Key highlights from 2025 include:
- A growing and engaged membership community, with more than 7,100 Fellows and over 13,000 members worldwide. A member-led governance review also began during the year to ensure the Society remains effective, inclusive and fit for the future.
- Record-breaking events and professional engagement, with the 2025 conference in Edinburgh welcoming a record 966 delegates from 42 countries, while discussion meetings, journals and publications continued to attract strong participation and growing audiences.
- Driving change in the public interest, contributing to reviews of the statistical system, providing evidence to the UK Covid-19 Inquiry and leading work to improve the use of statistics in law, public policy and poverty data.
- Inspiring understanding of statistics and data science through initiatives such as the William Guy Lectureships, public engagement events and education policy work.
- An inflated financial position due to an unusual year in which the valauable Errol Street office was sold. This resulted in a financial position that is artificially better than it would have been, although will be evened out as proceeds are be reinvested in a new office.
The report is an illustration of the valuable contribution made by RSS members, volunteers and staff throughout 2025.
