Nominations open for 2027 RSS Honours

We are happy to announce the opening of nominations for our 2027 Honours and invite the statistics community and wider public to recognise individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the discipline and its impact on society. 

The RSS Honours celebrate excellence across a broad range of statistical practice, from lifetime contributions to applied work in areas such as healthcare, environmental science and official statistics. Nominations are now open and will remain open 31 October 2026. More information and nominations forms can be found in the Honours web pages

In 2027, the following awards will be presented: 

  • The Guy Medal in Silver, recognising outstanding contributions to the advancement of statistics through work of special merit published in RSS Journals 

  • The Guy Medal in Bronze, awarded for meritorious contributions to statistics at an earlier career stage  

  • The David Cox Research Prize, celebrating exceptional applied or methodological statistical research near the beginning of their research career 

  • The Barnett Award for Environmental Statistics, recognising excellence in the application of statistics to environmental science  

  • The Bradford Hill Medal for Medical Statistics, honouring significant achievements in medical statistics and epidemiology  

  • The West Medal for Official Statistics, awarded for excellence and impact in the field of official statistics. 

These awards form part of the Society’s long-standing tradition of recognising members whose work has advanced statistical science and its application.  

The winners of the 2027 Honours will be announced next year, with recipients formally recognised at an RSS awards ceremony, held in our September conference.
