The Royal Statistical Society (RSS) is delighted to announce that Daniel Xiang has been awarded the David Cox Research Prize 2026.
The David Cox Research Prize recognises a Fellow of the Society who is at an early stage of their research career and has made an outstanding published contribution to statistical theory or application.
Daniel is being recognised for his influential work on empirical Bayes methods for multiple testing, including the development of a frequentist counterpart to the local false discovery rate. His research has advanced understanding in an important area of modern statistics and was praised by the judging panel for its originality, clarity and conceptual insight. In particular, his paper A frequentist local false discovery rate was highlighted as an elegant and innovative contribution to a topic of fundamental contemporary relevance.

The prize will be presented at the RSS Annual Conference in Bournemouth on Wednesday 9 September 2026.
