We along with our fellow mathematical science bodies that form the Council for the Mathematical Sciences, have released the following statement in response to the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT)
announcement that government funding for the creation of a national academy focussed on the mathematical sciences has been withdrawn.
“We are very disappointed with the government’s withdrawal of their commitment of £6m over three years to fund a new national academy focussed on mathematical sciences.
“The case for a national academy is compelling and unchanged. We continue to support the creation of such an academy to provide the essential connectivity between mathematicians working in academia, education, business, industry, and government which will fuel growth and equip the UK workforce for a modern economy.
“The Academy for the Mathematical Sciences (AcadMathSci) is already such an organisation. This visionary enterprise continues to have the strong backing of the community including the Council for the Mathematical Sciences and all its constituent learned societies.”
