RSS launches new healthcare stats excellence award

We are delighted to announce that the RSS, in partnership with the Health Foundation, is launching a new award for excellence in healthcare data analytics.

The Florence Nightingale Award for Excellence in Healthcare Data Analytics opens for entries next month. It is aimed at practitioners whose work in healthcare data analytics has played a crucial role in delivering innovative improvements for patient care in the UK.

Whether it’s improving everyday management in hospitals, more effective allocation of resources or using patient data more effectively, the award celebrates successes of practitioners going that extra mile in their work.

The award is in honour of Florence Nightingale – the first female fellow of the RSS, who revolutionised nursing through her statistical work and use of data visualisation. 2020 marks her bicentenary and the winner will be named at the RSS annual award ceremony, which will take place on the date of her birth – 12 May.

Adam Steventon, director of data analytics at the Health Foundation, said: 'The Health Foundation is committed to making sure that everyone’s health and care benefits from advances in analytics. That’s why we’re delighted to partner with the RSS in this award to celebrate and promote the great work that’s being done in this area.'

Professor Deborah Ashby, president of the RSS, said: 'We’re thrilled to have a new addition to our statistical excellence awards programme for Florence Nightingale’s bicentenary next year. The Health Foundation plays a key role in improving the quality of health and care in the UK so is the ideal partner for the award.'
