The joint editors of Journal of the Royal Statistical Society: Series A (Statistics in Society) are seeking a new joint editor to join the editorial team from February 2027. Nominations are encouraged and welcomed by members of the Society.
Series A publishes research on statistical methods and applications that address important societal questions. Read more about the journal here: Series A (Statistics in Society). Read more about the journal here: Series A (Statistics in Society).
We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with expertise in statistics applied to the social sciences, including survey statistics, official statistics and statistical demography. Applications from those working in other areas within the journal's scope are also welcome.
The role
Although the editors’ work is mainly concerned with the assessment of manuscripts for publication in the journals, in collaboration with their editorial panels, joint editors are also involved in the ongoing formulation and review of policy with the publishers (Oxford University Press) and the Society.
The editorships of the Society’s journals are important and prestigious positions, but they are also demanding and time consuming. The people who undertake them perform an invaluable service for the Society.
You can find further information about the role here.
The successful candidate will join the journal's editorial team as its third joint editor. Appointments are for a three-year term.
How to nominate yourself or others
Suggestions will be considered by a search committee chaired by Nikos Tzavidis, outgoing joint editor. To nominate, please send a short statement outlining the nominee's experience, together with a CV or a link to a professional webpage, to Nikos Tzavidis by 31 December 2026. Nominees should agree to their nomination, and self-nominations can be made.
