Committee members sought for new AI special interest group

The RSS is looking for volunteers to join the committee of a newly-proposed special interest group for Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Special interest groups (SIGs) are formed for a three-year period to gauge interest in a particular statistical topic or interest area. They work in line with the strategy of the Society, namely: to strengthen the discipline; support the profession; to promote statistical literacy and to ensure statistics are used in the public interest.

SIGs are run by a committee of volunteers who oversees the planning and delivery of an annual programme of events. Committee members will serve a three-year term and meet at least twice per year – this will include virtual meetings.

We are looking for volunteers who are willing to help determine the strategic direction of the group, interested in taking on official roles on the committee and organise AI-based events and activities to engage professionals working or involved in this area.

Artificial Intelligence uses many applications of statistical modelling and theory. It would be the aim of this SIG to develop networks, provide educational opportunities and act as a focal point of expertise within the Society, including arranging a programme of meetings and conferences.

If you wish to express interest or discuss joining the committee, please contact Amaka Nwagbara (volunteering@rss.org.uk), with a paragraph (up to 250 words) summarising your background, why you would like to join the committee and topics in AI that you want to explore through events.
