Join the Glasgow Local Group for their end of year event and AGM. The event will focus on data linkage methods used in National Records Scotland (NRS) as well as examples of accessing and using linked data.
The event will begin at 5pm with a brief AGM followed by the two talks (till 18:00). After the talks you are welcome to join us for some refreshments (same location).

"NRS as a trusted third party for data linkage in Scotland and overview of probabilistic matching methodology"
The National Records of Scotland enables access to it’s data (e.g. Scotland’s census) and also acts as a trusted third party for the provision of linked data for research. Working with the NHS Central Register provides a high quality representation of Scotland’s population and a source of truth for matching individuals across datasets. We will describe the methodology for probabilistic matching which underpins linkage of non-health datasets
Liam Cavin, NRS
"That all sounds lovely, but how do I get the data?"
If you are considering using Scotland’s census data in your work, there are a range of options for you. We will describe:
- Some of the potential uses of the rich socio-economic information in Scotland’s Census, and data sources you can access
- Custom projects linking census microdata extracts to administrative data sources – some examples
Ken Humphries, Svetlana Sucikova, Liam Cavin (all National Records Scotland).
