Erica Thompson will give this year’s Significance Lecture at the Society’s
Annual International Conference taking place in Brighton in September.
Associate Professor of Modelling for Decision Making at UCL’s Department of Science, Technology, Engineering and Public Policy, Dr Erica Thompson works on the use of models to support different kinds of decisions, from energy, climate change and pandemics to humanitarian action. She’s also a Fellow of the London Mathematical Laboratory and a Visiting Senior Fellow at LSE’s Data Science Institute. Her recent book,
Escape From Model Land, takes an accessible look at the power and pitfalls of mathematical models.
She joins
Tim Harford and
Hadley Wickham in the lineup of keynote speakers for the conference, with more names to be revealed shortly.
The Significance Lecture is scheduled to take place on the afternoon of Wednesday 4 September at the Hilton Brighton Metropole.
