The Royal Statistical Society is pleased to be hosting an open meeting on the Retail Prices Index (RPI) on Tuesday 21 July, from 5.30pm, which will take place online.
This discussion will help determine RSS's contribution to the consultation that the UK Statistics Authority (UKSA) and HM Treasury (HMT) are currently undertaking on this important subject.
It is planned to bring CPIH’s methods into RPI and the Treasury and UKSA are consulting, respectively, on the timing of this change and ensuring that the proposed methodological changes follow best statistical practice. A number of RSS members have also expressed interest in whether these planned changes should be made per se.
Although this meeting is being organised by the RSS, it is also open to non-members and the discussion will cover the statistical elements of the consultation, plus other matters related to inflation statistics.
The event’s confirmed keynote speakers are currently: Jonathan Athow (Deputy National Statistician, Office for National Statistics); Jill Leyland (member, ONS Advisory Panel (Stakeholder) on Consumer Prices); and Tony Cox (Chair, RPI/CPI User Group).
