The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Reading invites applications for a permanent Lectureship (equivalent of North American Assistant Professorship) in Applied Statistics. This is a teaching intensive role and the post holder will also be expected to undertake tutoring of undergraduate students and non-supervisory associated administrative duties. The post is full-time, but flexible working arrangements can be considered.
You will have:

  • An MSc or PhD in statistics;
  • Knowledge of core areas of applied statistics (data analysis, inference, modelling) at UG level;
  • Knowledge of a range of statistical computing packages;
  • Ability to develop own teaching materials, methods and approaches to teaching; and
  • Dedication to high-quality teaching and learning.

UG students are enrolled on a range of programmes within the Department in which statistics features including our BSc/MMath Mathematics and BSc Mathematics and Statistics degrees and a range of joint degrees including our BSc Mathematics with Computer Science, BSc Mathematics and Economics, BSc Mathematics with Finance and Investment Banking and BSc/MMath Mathematics and Meteorology.
Statistics modules are taught across all year levels on our department-owned degrees and also to students in other degrees including Pharmacy, Pharmacology and Computer Science.
The Department is home to research groups working in applied and pure mathematics and statistics research in areas including Applied and Methodological Statistics and Statistical Mechanics, Probability and Stochastic Analysis. We have strong interdisciplinary links through our Centre for the Mathematics of Planet Earth, and collaborative projects with other departments including Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Pharmacy and Food Science..
